As the year 2024 comes to an end, investors are gearing up for trading in 2025. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have released the official holiday calendar for the upcoming year. A common question among traders is whether the stock market will be open on New Year’s Day. The answer is yes—the market will remain open on January 1, 2025. BSE & NSE Holidays will not affect new year.
Trading Days at the End of 2024
Before the new year begins, only two trading sessions are left in 2024—Monday, December 30, and Tuesday, December 31.

Total Stock Market Holidays in 2025
The NSE and BSE holiday calendar for 2025 includes 14 trading holidays, excluding weekends. The first market holiday of the year falls on Wednesday, February 26, for Maha Shivratri.

Holidays Falling on Weekends
Some holidays traditionally observed as non-trading days will fall on weekends in 2025. Since stock markets remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays, these days won’t count as additional holidays:

The auspicious Muhurat Trading session will take place on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, during Diwali Laxmi Pujan. Exact timings will be announced by the NSE closer to the date.
